We look forward to working with you to restore the simple inspiration of honoring each other through thanksgiving and appreciation while providing a fully furnished home to a neighbor in need.
Upon arriving in Reno early in 2019 I discovered that homelessness was an evergrowing issue not only in Clark County but state wide. This troubled me as I see the broken lives and shattered dreams of great Americans laying on the sidewalks lost and drifting away as life ebbs by as though they don't even exist. As I became acquainted with some locals working out with Reno PD and their run with a recruiter program I discovered that this quaint small town city is overflowing with amazing people full of love and compassion hidden in the suburbs where they and their children are safe and secure. Later I went on a ride along with the Reno Fire Department to learn of a Fire Chief whose team goes out of their way to check on each homeless neighbor they encounter when on a call treating each of them with love respect and compassion. I discovered the Washoe County Sheriff's Department and their love for the community and all of its citizens regardless of their position in life, along with a team of street ambassadors and various wellness programs each with the goal to improve the quality of each life they touch. It was most recently when RPD launched the HOPE Team that we determined these people those going above and beyond their required scope of duty to help the Homeless must be honored must be recognized must be celebrated for their efforts. It then became obvious that while honoring these amazing people there is the opportunity to launch a new solution by using all funds raised at this event to purchase one fully furnished home for one of our homeless neighbors.
This home will be raffled off at the St Vincent s annual Thanksgiving dinner. On 12/19/20 we will host a public housewarming shower where the deed and keys will be awarded to the winner just in time for Christmas.
Our goal is to sell 500 tickets at $100.00 each to our first annual Haunt for the Homeless. The event will include a meal from Top Decks number one Chef Smiley served by costumed servers. A live awards ceremony for those whom you have nominated for their outstanding service, and live entertainment. To comply with covid regulations we are proposing to make use of the Reno City Parking garage allowing for a drive in feature to maintain adequate social distancing. Costumes are encouraged as there will be a contest with prizes.
